Saturday and Sunday evening, two former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in NBA games. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from June 12 and 13.

Saturday, June 12

  • Patrick Beverly (Marshall/Clippers)- 16 minutes, 7 points, 2/3 FG, 3/3 FT, 2 rebounds, an assist, and +9 in a 132-106 win over the Jazz.

Sunday, June 13

The Phoenix Suns complete the sweep of the Denver Nuggets with their 125-118 win. They now await the winner of the Utah Jazz-Los Angeles Clipper series. The #1 seed Jazz hold a 2-1 with the Clipper winning Game 3.

Three former Illinois prep stars are now headed to the Western Conference Finals. Those three Suns are Jevon Carter (Proviso East), Frank Kaminsky (Benet), and Abdel Nader (Niles North).

None played on Sunday but both Carter and Kaminsky have seen some minutes this playoff run. Nader has been out with a right knee arthroscopy.

But for Sunday’s losing team, one former Illinois prep star saw some significant minutes but in a loss. Franciscan’s JaVale McGee.
