Anthony Davis (Perspectives) shines in a shorten Mavs debut.

He had 26 points and 16 rebounds in 31 minutes before exiting in the third quarter with a non-contact injury of the Dallas Mavericks 116-105 win over the Houston Rockets on Saturday, February 8.

Unfortunately for Davis, he’s about to miss some time from the court with a left abductor strain.

Max Christie (Rolling Meadows) also scored 20+ points in the win.

NBA Games- February 8

Anthony Davis (Perspectives) made his debut for the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. He played exceptional but his day was cut short after leaving in the third quarter due to a non-contact injury. Before leaving the court, he had 26 points (10-18 FG, 2-2 3PT, 4-6 FT) with 16 rebounds (four offensive), seven assist, three blocks, a turnover, and a +9 plus-minus in 31 minutes. His points, rebounds, and assists were all game-highs. His made field goals and field goal attempts were team-highs. Davis is now up to 33 double-doubles in 43 games this season.

Joining him on the court was Max Christie (Rolling Meadows) offering a spark off the bench. He had 23 points (5-10 FG, 4-5 3PT, 9-10 FT) with two rebounds, two assists, a block, a turnover, and a -8 plus-minus. His four made 3-pointers were a game-high. His five 3-point attempts were a game-high but tied with Houston’s Dillon Brooks. His made free throws were a game-high and his free throw attempts were a game-high but tied with Rockets/ Alperen Sengun. His single turnover was a team-worst tied with four others. Also, his -8 plus-minus was a team-worst. Christie has three games with four or more made 3-pointers- two of them have been with Dallas. He’s only played three games for them.

Also making an appearance for Dallas was Olivier-Maxence Prosper (Lake Forest). Prosper has played 31 of the Mavs 33 games since the start of December. His last DNP came on Christmas Day against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played less than a minute and had a zero plus-minus. Fred VanVleet (Auburn) did not play for the Rockets in the loss due to a coach’s decision connected to an injury.

Jordan Goodwin (Althoff Catholic) signed a two-way contract with LA and quickly got the call-up. Goodwin came off the bench in the Los Angeles Lakers 124-117 win over the Indiana Pacers. He had 10 points (4-7 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-1 FT) with four rebounds (two offensive), an assist, two turnovers, and a +1 plus-minus. Goodwin has now played for the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and now Los Angeles Lakers in his young career.

Richaun Holmes (Lockport) has played in eight straight games including three straight starts. He had 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-2 FT) with eight rebounds (one offensive), two assists, a block, a turnover, and a -6 plus-minus in Washington Wizards 125-11 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. His eight rebounds were a team-high tied with two others. His lone block was a team-high tied with Bilal Coulibaly.

Golden State Warriors defeated the Chicago Bulls, 132-111. Matas Buzelis (Hinsdale Central) started and 16 points (6-10 FG, 1-3 3PT, 3-4 FT) with four rebounds, a team-high five assists, a steal, a block, three turnovers, and a -18 plus-minus in 29 minutes. Buzelis had taken 10 shot attempts in three straight games.

Also starting for the Bulls was Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park). He had 10 points (4-6 FG, 1-3 3PT, 1-1 FT) with a rebound, four assists, a steal, four turnovers, and a -13 plus-minus. His four turnovers were a game-worst tied with two others. Dosunmu has made seven straight starts for Chicago- his season-high is 14. Jevon Carter (Proviso East) went 0-for-3 from 3-point range with a rebound, an assist, and a +4 plus-minus in four minutes off the bench. Carter ties a season-high by playing in his fourth straight game. Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon) did not play due to a coach’s decision.

John Konchar (West Chicago) played less than a minute and had a zero plus-minus in Memphis Grizzlies 125-112 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He has gone scoreless in 13 of his 28 appearances this season.

Terrence Shannon Jr. (Lincoln Park) came off the bench in Minnesota Timberwolves 114-98 win over the Portland Trailblazers. He had four points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3PT, 0-2 FT) with an assist, a turnover, and a -18 plus-minus in 13 minutes. He has made two field goals in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.

Jalen Brunson (Stevenson) had his 18th 30+ points performance in the New York Knicks 131-104 loss to the Boston Celtics. Brunson had 36 points (10-18 FG, 3-7 3PT, 13-13 FT) with five assists, two turnovers, and a -19 plus-minus. His points, made field goals, field goal attempts, made 3-pointer, and 3-point attempts were all team-highs. His 13 made free throws and 13 free throw attempts were a game-high. Lastly, this five assists were a game-high tied with Boston’s Jaylen Brown.

Antonio Reeves (Simeon) came off the bench in New Orleans Pelicans 123-118 loss to the Sacramento Kings. He had three points (1-3 FG, 1-3 3PT) with a rebound, two assists, and a +14 plus-minus in 14 minutes. Reeves has played in three straight games for the third time this season.

NBA Games- February 9

Houston Rockets defeated Toronto Raptors, 94-87. Fred VanVleet (Auburn) did not play as he is still dealing with a right ankle injury.

G League Games- February 8

Motor City Cruise defeated the Indiana Mad Ants, 121-114. Indiana’s Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young) had 27 points (10-21 FG, 2-4 3PT, 3-3 FT) with 15 rebounds (four offensive), four assists, a blcok, two turnover, and a -9 plus-minus in 35 minutes.

RayJ Dennis (Oswego East) did not play due to two-way contractual obligations in the win.

Nojel Eastern (Evanston) started and dropped a career-high in Iowa Wolves 125-120 win over the Stockton Kings. He had 34 points (12-15 FG, 5-5 3PT, 4-4 FT) with five rebounds (one offensive), an assist, two steals, a block, a turnover, and a +5 plus-minus in 40 minutes.

Chasson Randle (Rock Island) came off the bench for the Kings in the loss. He had 13 points (3-11 FG, 2-8 3PT, 2-2 FT) with four rebounds (two offensive), three assists, a turnover, and a +6 plus-minus in 30 minutes.

The Maine Celtics needed overtime to defeat the Windy City Bulls, 102-98. Drew Peterson (Libertyville) started in the win and had 19 points (7-20 FG, 2-11 3PT, 3-3 FT) with seven rebounds (two offensive), an assist, two steals, four turnovers, and a +3 plus-minus in 40 minutes.

E.J. Liddell (Belleville West) started while Ben Coupet Jr. (Simeon) came off the bench in the loss. Liddell had 10 points (3-7 FG, 1-3 3PT, 2-3 FT) with 10 rebounds (three offensive), two assists, a steal, a block, and a +3 plus-minus in 25 minutes. Coupet had nine points (3-6 FG, 3-6 3PT) with three rebounds (two offensive), a turnover, and a -10 plus-minus in 23 minutes.

Cam Christie (Rolling Meadows) and the San Diego Clippers defeated the South Bay Lakers, 125-113. He had 14 points (4-5 FG, 2-3 3PT, 2-2 FT) in the start with eight rebounds, an assist, a turnover, and a +12 plus-minus.
