Memphis Grizzlies great Tony Allen (Crane) had his number retired and raised to FedExForum’s rafters on Saturday.

Allen played seven of his 14 seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies. He known as The Godfather of the Grit-and-Grind Grizzlies. During his time there, he made three All Defensive First Teams (2011, 2013, 2015) and three All Defensive Second Teams (2011, 2016, 2017).

The Crane grad averaged 8.9 points on 47.8 percent shooting with 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks in 25.1 minutes per game with the Grizzlies.

Derrick Rose (Simeon) joined Allen in Memphis for the celebrations. Rose spent his final season (2023-2014) as a Grizzlies player.

For his career, Allen played 820 games (441 starts) while averaging 8.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.4 steals in 22 minutes per game. He also won the 2008 NBA Championship as a member of the Boston Celtics.

To some Tony Allen’s numbers don’t seem to appear to be jaw dropping but Allen gave it is all every night, established a legacy, and became a fan favorite along the way.

Memphis Grizzlies deftness Miami Heat, 125-91. John Konchar (West Chicago) had two rebounds and a +8 plus-minus in three minutes off the bench for Memphis. This was Konchar’s 18th appearance with no points this season.

Houston Rockets defeated Chicago Bulls, 117-114. Fred VanVleet (Auburn) made his third straight start for Houston. He had 23 points (8-20 FG, 5-14 3PT, 1-2 FT) with six rebounds (two offensive), three assists, a block, a turnover, and a +4 plus-minus in 35 minutes. His five made threes were a game-high tied with his teammate Jalen Green. His 14 3-point attempts were a game-high. He shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc on eight attempts per game over his last three games.

Matas Buzelis (Hinsdale Central) started for Chicago in the loss. He had 10 points (4-10 FG, 2-5 3PT) with three rebounds, an assist, a steal, two blocks, two turnovers, and a -7 plus-minus in 19 minutes. His two blocks were a game-high tied with two others. His two turnovers were a team-high tied with three others. Buzelis has at least one block in 35 of his 65 games this season.

Jevon Carter (Proviso East) and Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon) did not play in the loss.

San Antonio Spurs defeated New Orleans Pelicans, 119-115. Antonio Reeves (Simeon) came off the bench for New Orleans for the 31st time. He had three points (1-1 FG, 1-1 3PT) with an offensive rebound, a turnover, and a -6 plus-minus in six minutes. Reeves is shooting 36.5 percent from beyond the arc on two attempts per game.

Washington Wizards defeated Denver Nuggets, 126-123. Richaun Holmes (Lockport) came off the bench for the sixth straight game. He had six points (2-4 FG, 2-2 FT) with six rebounds (four offensive), a steal, a block, a turnover, and a -5 plus-minus in 16 minutes. His four offensive rebounds were a game-high tied with his teammate Alex Sarr. His one block was a team-high tied with three others. He is averaging 11.8 rebounds per 36 minutes this season which is the second best of his career.

G League Games

Windy City Bulls defeated Raptors, 128-126. E.J. Liddell (Belleville West) and Javon Freeman-Liberty (Whitney Young) started for Windy City while Ben Coupet Jr. (Simeon) came off the bench. Liddell had 14 points (3-12 Fg, 1-6 3PT, 4-6 FT) with five rebounds (three offensive), four assists, two blocks, four turnovers, and a +7 plus-minus in 30 minutes. Freeman-Liberty had a triple-double in the win. He had 14 points (3-14 FG, 0-7 3PT, 5-5 FT) with 13 rebounds (one offensive), 10 assists, two blocks, a turnover, and a +5 plus-minus in 39 minutes.

Coupet had 16 points (6-8 FG, 3-5 3PT, 1-1 FT) with four rebounds (one offensive), a steal, two turnovers, and a +6 plus-minus in 22 minutes.

Evan Gilyard (Simeon) started for Raptors 905. He had 10 points (4-12 FG, 2-4 3PT, 0-1 FT) with three rebounds, two assists, a steal, two turnovers, and a -19 plus-minus in 28 minutes.

Salt Lake City Stars defeated Texas Legends, 121-101. Justin Harmon (Curie) had zero points (0-7 FG, 0-1 3PT) with an offensive rebound and a -7 plus-minus in four minutes off the bench for the Stars.
