Caitlin Clark was ruled out with a groin issue ahead of the Commissioner Cup final on Tuesday evening.
This proved be a non-issue as the Indiana Fever found their shot and got rolling in the second quarter. After a 20-12 deficit in the first, Fever bounced back and took the victory 74-59 over the Minnesota Lynx.
Indiana becomes the fifth different team to win the Commissioner’s Cup with their win against last year’s winner. The 2022 Las Vegas Aces is the only team to win the Cup and the WNBA Championship.
The Fever had five players in double figures with Natasha Howard and her 16 points (4-10 Fg, 8-8 FT) leading the way. She was one of two players with a double-double in the win as she grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Howard was named Commissioner’s Cup MVP after the game.
Aliyah Boston had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Indiana shot 42.9 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three. They also missed just one free throw going 11-for-12 on the night.
Minnesota shot 34.9 percent on their 63 field goal attempts. The Lynx made just four 3-pointers compared to the Fever’s eight. At the line, they were 11-for-14.
Alana Smith had a team-high 15 points for Minnesota.
Napheesa Collier had 12 points and nine rebounds and Courtney Williams had 11 points in the loss.
The Fever outrebounded the Lynx 40-30 and they also had seven more assists as they finished with 20 in the win.
Suprisingly, the Lynx did have two less turnovers than the Fever.
Fever return home to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Friday, July 3 and faceoff against the Las Vegas Aces at 6 PM.
Lynx also return to their home (Target Center) on Friday and take on the Washington Mystics at 7 PM.
