One of my favorite parts about the football season is participating in a fantasy football league. For about 15 years now, a group of mostly the same 10 people have gotten together online or in person to draft a team.

In recent years, we have shaken things up a bit. Last season, we introduced keepers and this year we introduced some new win opportunities.

To decide what pick we got, we all got a baseball team via a randomizer. Whichever team scored the most during a single weekend got to be the first to chose which pick the wanted. I had the Mariners and they did okay, I want to say I had the fourth or so pick to pick whatever spots were available.

Despite 2-4 being available, I went with the fifth pick. I really wanted CeeDee Lamb. I felt those would be too high to take him and at five, I could still get him- I was wrong but it would not be the end of the world.

Our draft was 16 rounds with nine starting sports and seven for bench players. We also have two IR spots to use as we please.

Starting lineups should have one quarterback, two running backs, two wide recievers, a tight end, a defense/special team, a kicker, and a flex spot. The flex can be another running back

About a week ago, my group of friends did our annual draft in person which is always better. Nothing better than football with drinks, snacks, and conversation with your buddies.

I do not have the exact list at the moment but the last time I calculated, my teams have the all-time best record. Unfortunately, I have only taken home the title and belt one time during that run.

This year, I need revenge. I had a loss in Week 1 of the playoff last season which is all on Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathon Taylor. He had a would-be touchdown of what I believe was 50 yard but he decided to drop the ball before entering the end zone. That fumble cost me the win.

The following weeks, my team was the highest scoring team but it was all for nothing.

How did I prepare for this year’s draft you ask? Nothing at all.

I know a decent amount of the player- or I thought I did.

Despite some curveballs on draft day, I am confident in the selections.

My Draft

First Pick: Justin Jefferson

I wanted CeeDee Lamb but how can one complain with arguably a top-3 wide receiver in the game that can easily be one on any given night or day.

Second Pick: Josh Jacobs

An unusual move by me. I do not recall ever drafting a Packers player

Third Pick: James Cook

Fourth Pick: Jalen Hurts

Hurts was my keeper from last year. I also draft him a few times now.

I drafted him with my fifth pick last year and in our league you can keep any pick from rounds 2 to 10 and lose the round before that pick. I felt Hurts would have the potential to be taken in the third and I liked him enough that a fourth seemed like a steal.

And the tush push is still alive so that’s good.

Fifth Pick: D.J. Moore

Rooting for the Chicago Bears is even more fun when a player on your fantasy team also gives another reason to cheer the team on.

It also makes the opposite that much worse.

Sixth Pick: David Montgomery

Seventh Pick: Jaylen Waddle

Sometimes there are players that you rock with even after they let you down. Hoping he finds a way to get his fourth 1,000 yard season in five years after “dropping the ball” last year with only 744 yards.

Eighth Pick: David Njoku

It’s all about the U.

Also, not missing out on him again- keep reading to know why.

Ninth Pick: Joe Mixon

Tenth Pick: Rhamondre Stevenson

Eleventh Pick: Brandon Aubrey

I am alway the guy that takes the first kicker. My previous favorite to go with is a bad guy and no longer is on a team.

Brandon Aubrey puts up points so I am rocking with this Cowboy.

Twelfth Pick: Xavier Legette

Picked him for the matching name.

Thirteenth Pick: Brian Robinson Jr.

Drafted him again. This time, he is traded before I even make a move with him.

Will he see dual time with CMC or just be used if CMC goes down.

Either way, decent risk-reward sitation.

Fourteenth Pick: Baltimore Ravens

Something about having the Ravens defense/special team always seems right.

Fifteenth Pick: Elijah Mitchell

Sixteenth Pick: Cole Kmet

Random Note

I drafted Jalen Hurts, D.J. Moore, Jaylen Waddle, David Njoku, and Brian Robinson last year too. Unfortunately, I cut Njoku to go with Evan Engram- terrible move because Njoku had a great run late in the season once he was healthy.

Recent Changes

Since the draft, I put Joe Mixon on IR. I added Jerome Ford for the open spot.

I also dropped Elijah Mitchell and added Nick Chubbs.

Final Thoughts

I was not too sure about the ending of this draft but ESPN Rankings ranked my draft the third best in the league.

I will take it.
