After a stellar rookie of the year campaign, Caitlin Clark was set to take Indiana Fever even further in Year 2.

The team signed big name free agents, was set to host the All Star game, and even had WNBA Finals aspirations.

Injuries have ruined it all.

Clark missed time in the preseason and the hopes for Fever Fans was that would be all the rest she needed to get geared up for the new season.

Those injuries would be the continuing trend the rest of the season.

Just as the NFL season was kicking off on Thursday, Clark took to social media to announce that she would not be returning to a WNBA court for the rest of 2025

Clark has not played since July 15 due to a right groin injury.

In August, the injury worsened during an event in practice which prolonged her time away the court.

Now it’s made known that it will keep her out the rest of the season.

She finished her sophomore campaign playing in just 13 games.

The Des Moines native ends the season averaging 16.5 points on splits .367/.279/.820 with five rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.6 steals, and 5.1 turnovers in 31.1 minutes per game.

Many of her stats took a hit but she did see some new career highs which included assists and steals.

Fever went 8-5 with her this season and 13-15 without Clark.

The Fever need her, her teammates need her, and the league needs her but that will have to wait.

An announcement this big was tough for her and something she said she did not want to deliver.

Putting this out and moving past this season could pay dividends as she can focus on her health and her own future.

But that is not without showing support for those that support her most- her teammates. She wants them to succeed- even without her on the court.

“I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs.”

She also credits her fans for pushing her through the dark times which is a reminder that there is always a good that can be found.

“This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good.”
