The Golden State Valkyries defeated the Dallas Wings 84-80 on Thursday night.
This win extended their winning streak to a game-high five games. Not only that but they also clinched a playoff spot with their win.
Valkyries become the first expansion team in WNBA history to make the playoff in their first season.
For the second straight season, Kate Martin (Edwardsville) will be headed to the playoffs- this time with her new squad.
In the win, Martin played 20 minutes off the bench. She had nine points (2-6 FG, 2-6 3PT, 3-3 FT) with four rebounds, an assist, a steal, a turnover, and a +11 plus-minus.
Another WNBA Box Score
Martin’s old team the Las Vegas Aces defeated Minnesota Lynx, 97-87. The Aces have now won 13 straight games. They are also 15-1 since Jewell Loyd (Niles West) became a bench player for them. She’s still contributing and playing big minutes but is no longer starting. And it’s working so both sides seem to be in an understanding. In the win on Thursday, Loyd played 25 minutes and had six points (2-5 FG, 2-4 3PT) with five rebounds two offensive), three assists, a steal, two turnovers, and a +12 plus-minus.
