The Chicago Heights native spent a year at Tulsa before becoming playing 136 games (110 starts) over four seasons at McNeese State.
While at McNeese, he averaged 12.5 points on 55.8 percent shooting with 7.7 rebounds and a block per game.
Shumate went undrafted but spent the NBA Summer League with the New Orleans Pelicans. He appeared in four games and averaged 17.4 minutes per game.
He also averaged 3.3 points on just 3.5 shots while shooting 42.9 percent with six rebounds in limited minutes on the Pelican Summer League team.
Now he’s rejoining the Pelicans on a deal likely for training camp with the likelihood of landing on their G League affiliate- the Birmingham Squadron.
Good Luck to another local paving their own path in the professional basketball world.
