Spring training is quickly coming to an end as athletes leave Arizona and Florida to begin the regular season. Much like the past seasons, this upcoming one will be dominated by the young prospects in the game of baseball.
One of those young prospects is #3 ranked Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
If the name sounds familiar, it should. Guerrero is the son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, most notable for his time with the Montreal Expos and the Los Angeles Angels. Many even say they son has the same baseball mannerisms as his father.
Tuesday night, the matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Toronto Blue Jays was played in the Montreal, Canada, the former home to the Expos. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was in attendance to root on his son who plays for the Blue Jays.
Guererro, wearing his dad’s number 27 did not start the game but later came in to replace Russell Martin.
In the top of ninth, 0-0 tie, no outs, 0-0 count, Guerrero launches Jack Flaherty’s pitch to left-center for the walk-off home run. Blue Jays defeat the Cardinals 1-0.

“I’m surprised the roof is still on the stadium, to be honest. That was incredible. He knocked the cover off that ball. Just a special moment for the kid, for us at the same time, what a great way to finish spring training and head into the season,” said Russel Martin after the game to Shi Davidi (Sportsnet columnist).

Guerrero appeared in only 4 Spring Training games but had a load of success. He slashed .538/.538/.846 with four runs, a double, a home run and two runs batted in. If tonight foreshadows his career, he will be fun to follow.
