Illinois center Kofi Cockburn took to Twitter Friday evening to announce he is returning to the Fighting Illini for the 2021-22 season.
Cockburn posted a 1-minute long videos explaining his love for Illinois and the unfinished business he still has down in Champaign.
“Champaign became my home and Illinois Basketball became my family. I will never forget what these last two years have meant to me as person and player.”
Cockburn was a key part of the Illini program the last two seasons. Across 31 games last season, he averaged 17.7 points on 65.4 percent shooting with 9.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 27 minutes.
He earned first-team All BIG Ten and second team All-American honors. He also helped Illinois to a BIG Ten Tournament championship title, a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament, and Illinois’ first appearance in the tournament since March 2013.
“It’s time to bring a national Championship back to Champsign.”
