One of the best parts about baseball is getting to visit a ballpark and rooting your favorite team on. For some fans, they look for more in a team and their ballpark experience. So teams have to be creative when building ballparks and delivering top-notch in-game experiences. At American Family Field in Milwaukee, one of the special features is a tall slide which the Brewers’ mascot Bernie Brewer slides down when his team hits a home run.
Bernie is not the only one that gets to go or want to slide down that very slude either. This week, visiting Los Angeles broadcaster David Vassegh learned the hard way that he should lead the sliding to the experts.
Vassegh did not expect the intensity which is clear by his screams. Thanks to Justin Turner, a new angle is available.
Vassegh did survive the slide but walked away with some minor injuries. The Dodgers reporter broke two bones in his right wrist and cracked six ribs due to the accident. He went to an urgent care and made it back in time to call Wednesday’s Dodger-Brewers game but did have a cast for his hand. He may still need a surgery when he returns home for the cracked ribs.
Bernie Brewer did not let Vassegh walk away without making sure Vassegh learned his lesson. Bernie gift the Dodger report with a card and some flowers. The card was a ‘Slide Instruction Manual” which read, “It’s really not that hard.”
For now, one last joke from Bernie Brewer:
