Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 at Balmoral earlier today. She was UK’s longest serving monarch and was able to do plenty during her reign. While she’s met many notable historical figures, she did fancy sporting events not just in her own country but across the pond in the United States and Canada. Below are four notable stops.

1957- College Football Game

Queen Elizabeth’s first American Football game came on October 19, 1957. She sat in a box on the 50-yard line next to 43,000 other fans to watch Maryland vs. North Carolina.

1991- MLB Game

During a visit with 41st U.S. President George H.W. Bush, the Queen was treated to a Major League Baseball game between the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles. This took place on May 15, 1991. Prior to the start of the game, the players and staff entered one of the dugouts to shake hand with the President and Queen.

2002- NHL Game

This particular event did not take place on U.S. soil but was a moment in a U.S. League’s history. on October 6, 2022, Queen Elizabeth did the ceremonial pull drop before the start of a game between the San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks.

In the videos and photos from that evening, she stood next to hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.

2007- Kentucky Derby

Only fitting for the lady with many outfits and hats to visit the number one sports social event of the year with her appearance at Churchill Downs. She did so back in 2007 for the 133rd Kentucky Derby. This was the Queen’s first visit to the US since 1991.
