The National Football League owns Sunday especially in the fall. But don’t let the National Basketball Association know because they will do just about anything to bring attention back on the league. This league tried to make their statement on the court with two players scoring more than fifty points on Sunday.
In A Win- Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid does not believe in rest. After dropping 42 points barely 24 hours ago, the Philadelphia 76ers superstar put on a MVP performance in a 105-98 win over the Utah Jazz. Embiid dropped a career-high 59 points to go along with 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 blocks, and 1 steal.
Embiid went 19 of 28 from the field and 20 of 24 from the free throw line.
The wildest part of this has to be that he scored 26 of the 76ers 27 fourth quarter points. Also, it puts him in fifth place all-time on the 76ers “most points in a game” list. Wilt Chamberlain scored 68, 65, and 62 in a game and Allen Iverson had 60.
In A Loss- Darius Garland
Unfortunately, sometimes a good game goes wasted and that was the case for Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland. The Cavs suffered a 129-124 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday despite Garland’s career-high 51 points.
Much like Embiid, Garland also let it rain in the fourth quarter. He scored 27 of his 51 points in the final quarter of the team’s loss. Great effort but it’s a lot, a little too late.
Garland finished the day with 51 points on 16 of 31 shooting, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. He also made a career-high ten three-pointers en-route to his 51 points.
Lastly, this was the first 50-point game of the season.
Fantasy Note
Fantasy Football gets all the love in the world of fantasy but Fantasy Basketball deserves some too. And if your team has any or all of the two, you did well today.
