“This League” is a common phrase tossed around for the craziness and the endless drama that comes from those in the National Basketball Association. And rightfully so as there seems to barely be a day which the NBA does not find its way into the headlines. A once irrelevant team is back in limelight after coming out of the gate red hot. After a 137-129 win over the Detroit Pistons, the Sacramento Kings improved to 9-6 and currently sit in 5th place in the Western Conference.
Kings fans are loyal but have been treated to some of those worst basketball that fans can possibly be given. They have not seen their favorite team have a winning season in sixteen season. Their last winning season was 2005-06 when their roster consisted of Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Mike Bibby, Kevin Martin, Brad Miller and Peja Stojakovic.
Today, the team is playing like some of those old, winnings squads as they just had their first six-game win streak since 04-05. This time they are lead by veterans Harrison Barnes and Domantis Sabonis, a strong outside shooting threat in Kevin Huerter, a rising rookie in Keegan Murray, and an electric point guard in De’Aaron Fox, and is round out with some solid bench play from guys like Malik Monk and others.
They are just beating nobodies either. They last six wins have come against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, San Antonio Spurs and of course, this win against the Pistons.
Some of those teams are clearly underperforming. Just ask the 8-9 Warriors or 5-10 Lakers but the Kings are not just going to give them a cakewalk as we’ve seen. For reference, their win over the Nets was in dominating fashion. Seven different players scored in double figures as the dropped 153 points and defeated them by 32 points.
It’s early but for now let Sacramento Kings and their fans enjoy this. They are the best NBA team in California.
