Just one NBA game of note in today’s post but also wanted to recognize one of the state’s best hooper.

Nowadays he can be seen talking behind a mic but Evan Turner was killer on the court.

Turner got to play under Illinois basketball legend Gene Pingatore at St. Joseph in Westchester. After graduating high school in 2007, he headed east to Columbus and quickly became a giant on campus. He went on to be National Player of the Year in 2010 and was taken second overall in the draft that year.

Turner went on to have solid 10-year NBA career in which he played 705 games for five different teams. He averaged 9.7 points on 43.4 percent shooting with 4.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists for his career.

Last year, I met him at his showcase after many years of watching him on the court. I always hoped we’d cross paths as we share a birthday together. After talking I learned my older sibling’s high school friend was actually his AAU teammate and he shared some hilarious stories from that time. Very cool moment.

Afterwards we exchanged contact information and went on with the day. I am hoping to bring back audio and video content soon..maybe a podcast. I don’t know quite yet but expect ET to be a guest.
