It may be the WNBA offseason but the league continues to deliver big with news.

Friday evening, the league had an expansion draft. Next season the league welcomes the Golden State Valkyries and that team needs to fill out their roster. The first step was this draft. They were allowed two take a player from every team if they chose but those teams were able to protect six players. This allows them not to lose their big names.

Valkykries selected Kate Martin (Edwardsville) in the six round from the Las Vegas Aces.

Golden State head coach Natalie Nakase is familiar with Martin. Nakase was the assistant coach for the Las Vegas Aces from 2022 to 2024 and has been a vocal supporter of Martin since before her WNBA days.

Martin played in 34 games for Las Vegas last season while averaging just 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game. She also shot 35.5 percent from beyond the arc.
