Chicago White Sox have announced a new name for their stadium.
White Sox announced on social media on Tuesday that their Bridgeport stadium will now be called Rate Field.
Guaranteed Rate, a mortgage company in Chicago, bought the naming rights in 2016 and for the last eight years the stadium has been called Guaranteed Rate Field.
This is the fourth name change of their current stadium. When it opened, it went by New Comiskey Park before changing to U.S.Cellular Field in 2003 which last until November 2016.
Prior to changing stadium in 1991, they played at White Sox Park or Old Comiskey Park right next door to their current location since 1910. Their original location was on 39th and Princeton known as the 39th Street Grounds. It was originally used by a local cricket team during the 1893 World’s Fair. When the then-White Stocking took over the park in 1900, owner Charles Comiskey helped build a 7,500 seat wooden grandstand so fans could watch his baseball team.
Names and locations relating to stadiums always bring up a but of unsureness but for a 101-loss team, it is the least of the White Sox worries.
Unfortunately for this fanbase, this will probably be the biggest news of the offseason by the Chicago White Sox.
