Even when it’s an off day, there is usually something happening in the Illinois hoops world.
The biggest story of the day goes to Terrence Shannon. Jr (Lincoln Park) who was being honored by the University of Illinois.
Shannon Jr. was being honored for his contributions as a member of the Illinois men’s basketball program from 2022-2024. As they unrivaled the banner, everyone in the arena (and online) had a good laugh as the banner was upside down.
Illinois went on to fix their mistake after the game.
Shannon played his final two seasons as an Illinois. He averaged 20 points on 46 percent shooting with 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.1 steal in 63 games for Illinois. He also shot 34.3 percent
His final season, he scored an impressive 23 points per game on 47.5 percent shooting helping him collect his second All Big Ten honor, have his name in National Player of the Year conversations, and adding school records to his resume.
Also, two natives participated in Saturday events at All-Star Weekend in San Francisco.
Jalen Brunson (Stevenson) was one of the eight NBA players in the 2025 Starry 3-Point Contest. He scored 18 points in the first round but was a first round exit.

Chicago Bulls rookie Matas Buzelis (Hinsdale Central) played in his second event of the weekend- Slam Dunk Contest. Unfortunately for the rookie, his dunks were not landing and he did not score well.
Kate Martin (Edwardsville) also was out in San Francisco enjoying All Star Game Weekend. Come spring, she will call Golden State home as she joins her new team the Valykries.
Martin joined by A’ja Wilson records a live interview for the A Touch More podcast hosted by Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe.
