The NBA playoffs are set so the final day of the regular season offers a lot of interesting stat lines and a rather large inactive list compared to most days.
Eleven former Illinois prep stars played in a NBA game on Sunday and below are their performances
NBA Games
Boston defeated Charlotte Hornets, 93-86. Drew Peterson (Libertyville) made his 25th appearance of the season. He came off the bench and had four points (1-4 FG, 1-3 3PT) with three rebounds (two offensive), a turnover, and a -3 plus-minus in 12 minutes. Peterson had multiple rebounds in three straight games for the first time in his career-high.
Indiana Pacers defeated Cleveland Cavaliers, 126-118, in double overtime. RayJ Dennis (Oswego East) came off the bench in the win. He has several career-highs including his 13 points (5-14 FG, 3-9 3PT). He also had five rebounds, a game-high six assists, three steals, two blocks, and a game-high +35 in 29 minutes. His 3-pointers and 3-point attempts were team-highs. His two blocks were a team-high tied with two others. Dennis finishes his rookie year with 11 appearances and will likely build on that next season.
Washington Wizard defeated Miami Heat, 119-118. Richaun Holmes (Lockport) missed his sixth straight game due to his right shoulder contusion.
Chicago Bulls defeated Philadelphia 76ers, 122-102. Matas Buzelis (Hinsdale Central) started for Chicago while E.J. Liddell (Belleville West), Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon), and Jevon Carter (Proviso East) came off the bench. Buzelis had seven points (3-3 FG, 1-1 3PT) with three rebounds (one offensive), an assist, a steal, two turnovers, and a zero plus-minus in 14 minutes. Buzelis led the Bulls with 80 games played this season.
Liddell had zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3PT) with a +2 plus-minus in three minutes. Liddell has appeared in five of the Bulls last seven games. Horton-Tucker had 17 points (6-9 FG, 0-2 3PT, 5-7 FT) with three rebounds, a game-high six assists, two steals, and a +20 plus-minus in a team-high 29 minutes. His six field goals were a team-high tied with two others. His free throws and free throw attempts were game-highs. His two steals were a team-high tied with two others. Horton played 48 games for the Bulls this season without getting one start- he had at least one in each of his first five season.
Carter had 5 points (2-9 FG, 1-7 3PT) with four rebounds (one offensive), two assists, and a game-high +26 plus-minus in 22 minutes. His seven 3-point attempts were a team-high with Kevin Huerter. Carter’s 36 games played is a career-low- his previous low was 39 set his rookie season with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Denver Nuggets defeated Houston Rockets, 126-111. Fred VanVleet (Auburn) started in the loss. He had 15 points (5-13 FG, 3-8 3PT, 2-3 FT) with three assists, a steal, three turnovers, and a -20 plus-minus in a team-high 27 points. His 15 points were a team-high tied with Amen Thompson. His one steal was a team-high tied with four others. His three tunrovers were a game-worst tied with Denver’s Aaron Gordon. VanVleet finished the season with 60 games played.
Memphis Grizzlies defeated Dallas Mavericks, 132-97. John Konchar (West Chicago) came off the bench in the loss. He had two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3PT) wiht seven rebounds (two offensive), three assists, a game-high six steals, a turnover, and a +27 plus-minus in 21 minutes. Konchar went the whole season without scoring in double digits. His six steals in the win is a new career-high for Konchar.
Max Christie (Rolling Meadows) made his first start since March 12. He had 14 points (6-13 FG, 0-3 3PT, 2-2 FT) with five rebounds, two assists, a steal, a game-worst four turnovers, and a -21 plus-minus in a game-high +39 minutes. His one steal was a team-high tied with five others. Christie finishes the season with 78 games played- career-high by 11 games.
Minnesota Timberwolves defeated Utah Jazz, 116-105. Minnesota rookie Terrence Shannon Jr. (Lincoln Park) did not play in the win.
Los Angeles Clippers defeated Golden State Warriors, 124-119, in overtime. Cam Christie (Rolling Meadows) did not play in the win.
Oklahoma City Thunder defeated New Orleans Pelicans, 115-100. Antonio Reeves (Simeon) made his sixth start of the season. He had a team-high 20 points (8-14 FG, 0-4 3PT, 4-5 FT) with six rebounds, a block, and a game-worst -18 plus-minus in a 39 minutes. His eight field goals were a team-high. His one block was a team-high tied with three others. His 39 minutes was a game-high tied with his teammate Keion Brooks. Reeves finished the season shooting 45.7 percent on 13.5 field goal attempts in starts.
Portland Trail Blazers defeated Los Angeles Lakers, 109-81. Jordan Goodwin (Althoff Catholic) came off the bench in the loss. He had 12 points (5-14 FG, 2-5 3PT) with seven rebounds (two offensive), four assists, two steals, two turnovers, and a -18 plus-minus in 30 minutes. Goodwin had at least on offensive in 25 of his 29 appearances this season.
