The Chicago Cubs have a history dating back to 1876. Even in 2025, the team is still doing things they have never done before.

Over 40,000 fans were in attendance as the Cubs hit a franchise record eight home runs in their 11-3 Independence Day win over the St. Louis at Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon.

Five different players hit a home run with Michael Busch leading the way with his trio of home runs.

Home Run #1

Seiya Suzuki sends a Mike Mikolas pitch 413 feet to left center to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead against the Cardinals.

Home Run #2

Pete Crow-Armstrong goes back-to-back with Suzuki with a home run of his own. PCA’s goes 397 to left center.

Home Run #3

Michael Busch opens the second inning with a 408-foot solo shot to right center which gives the Cubs a 3-0 lead.

Home Run #4

Carson Kelly follows up Busch’s solo shot with one of his own. Kelly’s home run was a 397-foot shoot to left center. This was his first home run since May 24.

Home Run #5

Crow-Armstrong extend Chicago’s lead to five runs with his second home run of the day- 414 feet to right field.

This is his fourth multi-home run game and the fifth of his career.

Home Run #6

Michael Busch joins PCA in the multi-homer club with his second home run two batter later. He hit a two-run home run, scoring Dansby Swanson, and give them a 7-0 lead.

Home Run #7

Swanson hit a two-out, 423 foot two run home run which scored PCA in the seventh. This gave the Cubs their ninth and tenth runs of the day.

Home Run #8

Busch goes back-to-back with Swanson for his third home run of the game. This home run set the Cubs franchise record for home runs in a single game with eight.

His third home run of the day was a 369-foot shot to left center. He became the first Cub to hit three home runs since Rafael Ortega did so on Aug. 1, 2021.

Cubs (53-35) lead the National League central by four games over the second place Milwaukee Brewers.

They now hold a 6.5 game lead over rival St. Louis Cardinals.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Mike Mikolas surrendered six of the eight home runs with John King giving up the final two.

Rumor has hit that fans want Mikolas to throw at the upcoming home run derby during MLB All Star Weekend in Atlanta.
