One of the greatest baseball inventions is the bullpen cart. The 1970s baseball scene was dominated by relief pitchers taking the stroll to the pitcher bound using the cart. Over the last forty years, the carts have gone extinct but some Major League Baseball teams are reviving the old tradition this season.
One of those teams: the Detroit Tiger
Visiting pitcher Fernando Rodney, 41, of the Minnesota Twins was warming up in the bullpen before being called upon to close out the win. Instead of walking the distance, the 41-year-old took the fiery cart to the mound.
The decision paid off for the 16-year veteran because he got three quick outs (two by strikeout) to earn his to close out the 6-4 Twins win and get his 14th save of the season.
