Course: Detroit Golf Club
Rough Length: Moderate to High (report from club member)
Looking into some of the media reports on the course has led me to believe that this week our first key stat for the week will be eagles gained as there are four par fives that will be attackable for the bombers this week. The majority of the experts have the winner being between -20 to -25 and being able to make eagle on the par fives should be key in securing the win this week.
The second key stat to take a look at is strokes gained: ball-striking. Ball striking should be key in deciding a winner this week and with that being the case look for guys such as Gary Woodland, Corey Conners, and Alex Prugh to be leading the field this week.
The third key stat that I will be focusing on this week is strokes gained: off the tee. This should pair nicely with the eagles gained that I touched on earlier as the bombers that can remain accurate should be rewarded with the chance for many eagles this week.
The field this week will be one without many stars but the big names who will be making the trek to Detroit are Ricky Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, and Gary Woodland who is back from his victory tour after winning the U.S. Open.
The next group of the field takes a bit of a dip with Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Brandt Snedeker, Kevin Kisner, Jason Dufner, and Byeong-Hun An.
The decrease in the star factor of this tournament really leads me to avoid some of the long shots on my betting card for the week but that will be coming out later in the week along with a DRAFT roster review and rankings for the week.
