Range: +550-2500
- Dustin Johnson +500 (current favorite)
- Gary Woodland +1200
- Rickie Fowler +1200
- Hideki Matsuyama +1400
- Chez Reavie +2500
Out of this first tier of players, the only dart I will be throwing is on Rickie Fowler. Not only is he the Rocket Mortgage guy, I think this course sets up nicely for him as well. It pains me to take Rickie as he’s lost me so much in the past but I truly believe that if you are going to put down some money on this top tier of guys Rickie is the best play available. Rickie is ranked 49th in par five birdie scoring or better, pair that with this weaker field and he should be one of the top guys this week when it comes to the key par five scoring.
Range: +2800-5000
- Brandt Snedeker +2800
- Ryan Moore +2800
- Billy Horschel +3000
- Patrick Reed +3000
- Kevin Kisner +3300
- Bubba Watson +3500
- Sungjae Im +3500
- Abraham Ancer +4000
- Joaquin Niemann +4000
- Aaron Wise +4500
- Kevin Streelman +4500
- Viktor Hovland +4500
- Brian Harman +5000
- Byeong Hun An +5000
- Jason Dufner +5000
- Kevin Tway +5000
- Rory Sabbatini +5000
Aaron Wise is the only guy in this tier that I’m taking on my betting card this week. He rates highly in par five birdie or better stats and finished tied for 35th at Pebble Beach for the US Open. I’m going to hopefully hop on the Wise train at the right time as he continues to play good golf and will take home the win this week.
Anyone Else I Like:
- Luke List +8000
- Alex Prugh +15000
- Ryan Armour +15000
Again Luke List ranks out well on the par five scoring that I’m weighing heavily this week. He is almost never a good play but let’s hope that with this week’s lower skill field he can make a solid run and at least cash in an each-way bet.
Alex Prugh is the next play that I will be using this week on my card as he played good golf last week and finished 20th at TPC Riverhighlands last week. I’m hoping he can put together an even better week this week and although its a bit of a longshot I won’t be left out if Prugh takes the win this week.
Ryan Armour is my final play of the week, I’ve had Armour on my card every week so far this year and I’m not going to stop playing him now. Let’s hope that this is the week for him with the diminished field.
Final Thoughts:
With a lackluster field playing this week don’t be afraid to play some of the top guys and then sprinkle in a few longshot bets as it seems that it’s going to either be one of the few stars or a scrub that will be on top of the leaderboard on Sunday afternoon.
Almost everyone agrees that this week will be a birdiefest so if you’re looking for some other plays this week I would consider looking into guys that can rack up birdies in case the course plays super easy. If you are a fan of the course dominating the players I have a feeling that this is not going to be your week.
