DePaul Blue Demons planned to begin their season with a game Sunday against the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames, Iowa. Just an hour before game time, the game was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns over a positive test within the Blue Demons’ basketball program.
It is now DePauls fifth game that has been either canceled or postponed. After a 10-day program shutdown ending on November 29, DePaul was ready to get their season underway but had to postpone their game against NIU. The medical staff advised to get a couple days in for conditioning instead hopping immediately into games.
Sunday’s game was going to be opened to fans which Iowa State and its following had been looking forward to even with the pandemic. Heading into the season, COVID-19 was a main concern for both teams and something not to be taken lightly.
Cyclones head coach Steve Prohm said, “We are disappointed that we are unable to play this evening against DePaul. We were looking forward to playing in front of our fans for the first time this season.”
DePaul is now set to open their season on Friday, December 11 at Seton Hall. The game is schedule to start at 3:30 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network
