Former Illinois Prep Athletes and their NBA Performances- January 3 Recap

Sunday evening, 10 former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in a NBA game. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from January 3.

Best Of The Day: Jalen Brunson

Although Jalen Brunson was not born in Illinois, his high school years were spent in the state playing for Adlai E. Stevens High Schools. He dominated by winning a state championship and being named Illinois Mr. Basketball. He’s represent the state well since departing. Brunson has won two NCAA championships and has performed well in his young NBA career.

Despite the loss, he had a season-high 31 points in his first start of the season.

  • Jalen Brunson (Stevenson/Mavericks)- 38 minutes, 31 points, 11/17 FG, 3/7 3PT, 6/6 FT, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal, 4 turnovers, and +4 in a 118-108 loss to the Bulls.

The rest of the performances of the day:

  • Derrick Rose (Simeon/Pistons)- 24 minutes, 13 points, 4/12 FG, 1/3 3PT, 4/4 FT, 1 offensive rebound, 8 assists, a block, a team-high 4 turnovers, and +6 in a 122-120 loss to the Celtics.

  • Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young/Pistons)- 8 minutes, 6 points, 3/3 FG, 2 offensive rebounds, an assist, a block, and -5 in a 122-120 loss to the Celtics. Okafor missed last three Pistons games.
  • Anthony Davis (Perspectives/Lakers)- 32 minutes, 17 points, 6/15 FG, 0/2 3PT, 5/6 FT, 2 offensive rebounds, 9 total rebounds, an assist, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 3 turnovers, and +5 in a 108-94 win over the Grizzlies.

  • Alfonzo McKinnie (Marshall/Lakers)- 1 minute, 3 points, 1/1 FG, 1/1 3PT, and -1 in a 108-94 win over the Grizzlies.

  • Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon/Lakers)- 24 minutes, 7 points, 3/9 FG, 1/4 3PT, 2 offensive rebounds, 6 total rebounds, 2 assists, a turnover, and +11 in a 108-94 win over the Grizzlies

  • John Konchar (West Chicago/Grizzlies)- 17 minutes, 4 points, 1/3 FG, 0/1 3PT, 2/2 FT, 2 offensive rebounds, 5 total rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, a block, and -3 in a 108-94 loss to the Lakers.

  • Patrick Beverly (Marshall/Clippers)- 28 minutes, 7 points, 2/3 FG, 1/1 3PT, 2/2 FT, 2 offensive rebounds, 9 total rebounds, a turnover, and -5 in a 112-107 win over the Suns.
  • Jevon Carter- 3 minutes and -19 in a 112-108 loss to the Clippers.
  • Robert Covington (Proviso West/Trail Blazers)- 27 minutes, 6 points, 2/4 FG, 2/2 FT, 2 rebounds, an assist, 2 steals, 2 turnovers, and -8 in a 137-122 loss to the Warriors.
