Thursday evening, seven former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in a NBA game. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from January 7.
Best of the Day: JaVale McGee
JaVale McGee is still rather active as a veteran center with the Cavaliers. He has a tough job as he’s coming off the bench most nights. It’s not easy just to flip the switch after sitting down to start most games but he’s figured it out.
- JaVale McGee (Franciscan/Cavaliers)- 17 minutes, 13 points, 5/7 FG, 1/1 3PT, 2/2 FT, an offensive rebounds, 6 total rebounds, a steal, a block, and +10 in a 94-90 win over the Grizzlies.
The rest of the performances of the day:
- Keita Bates-Diop (University/Spurs)- 1 minute, 0/1 FG and -3 in a 118-109 win over the Lakers.
- Anthony Davis (Perspectives/Lakers)- 34 minutes, 23 points, 11/17 FG, 1/3 3PT, 0/2 FT, 2 offensive rebounds, 10 total rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, 3 blocks, a turnover, and -16 in a 118-109 loss to the Spurs.
- Alfonzo McKinnie (Marshall/Lakers)- 2 minutes and +3 in a 118-109 loss to the Spurs.
- Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon/Lakers)- 21 minutes, 10 points, 4/9 FG, 0/3 3PT, 2/3 FT, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, and +7 in a 118-109 loss to the Spurs.
