Former Illinois Prep Athletes and their NBA Performances- March 19 Recap

Friday evening, ten former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in a NBA game. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from March 19.

Best of the Day: Richaun Holmes

  • Richaun Holmes (Lockport/Kings)- 32 minutes, 25 points, 7/11 FG, 1/1 3PT, 10/12 FT, 4 offensive rebounds, 11 total rebounds, 2 assists, a team-high 2 steals (tied with De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton), a game-high 3 blocks, and +8 in a 107-96 win over the Celtics.

The rest of the performances of the day:

  • Robert Covington (Proviso West/Trail Blazers)- 36 minutes, 11 points, 4/10 FG, 3/8 3PT, an offensive rebound, 7 total rebounds, a team-high 3 steals, 2 turnovers, and -2 in a 125-119 win over the Mavericks. His 6 defensive rebounds were a team-high.

  • Jalen Brunson (Stevenson/Mavericks)- 15 minutes, 9 points, 3/4 FG, 1/2 3PT, 2/2 FT, a rebound, 2 assists, a turnover, and +0 in a 125-119 loss to the Trail Blazers.
  • Frank Kaminsky (Benet/Suns)- 14 minutes, 5 points, 2/3 FG, 0/1 3PT, 1/2 FT, a rebound, 2 assists, a steal, +4 in a 113-101 win over the Timberwolves.
  • Abdel Nader (Niles North/Suns)- 16 minutes, 10 points, 4/9 FG, 1/2 3PT, 1/3 FT, a team-high 2 offensive rebounds, 3 total rebounds, a team-high 1 block, a turnover, and -6 in a 113-101 win over the Timberwolves.

  • Brodric Thomas (Bolingbrook/Cavaliers)- 16 minutes, 7 points, 3/5 FG, 1/3 3PT, 3 assists, a steal, and +16 in a 116-110 loss to the Spurs. Had several career-highs in the loss. They included minutes, points, field goal, field goal attempts, 3-point field goal attempts, and plus/minus.

  • John Konchar (West Chicago/Grizzlies)- 6 minutes, 1/1 FG, 1/1 3PT, a rebound, a steal, and +8 in a 116-103 loss to the Warriors.
  • Fred VanVleet (Auburn/Raptors)- 41 minutes, 17 points, 6/15 FG, 2/8 3PT, 3/3 FT, an offensive rebound, 6 total rebounds, a team-high 9 assists (tied with Pascal Siakim), 2 steal, a turnover, and +1 in a 115-112 loss to the Jazz.

  • Kendrick Nunn (Simeon/Heat)- 19 minutes, 7 points, 3/8 FG, 1/4 3PT, 2 assists, a steal, 2 turnovers, and -9 in a 137-110 loss to the Pacers.
  • Max Strus (Stagg/Heat)- 4 minutes, an assist, and -1 in a 137-110 loss to the Pacers.
