Former Illinois Prep Athletes and their NBA Performances- May 16 Recap

Sunday evening, seventeen former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in a NBA game. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from May 16.

The 17 total players is the most in a day this season. This wraps up the regular season portion of these blog posts. Playoff posts start soon.

Best of the day: Jevon Carter

Final game of the year and Proviso East’s Jevon Carter finally got his first start of the season. He made the most of it as he finished an assist shy of a triple-double. He also had a season-high in points, rebounds, and assists in the Suns win.

  • Jevon Carter (Proviso East/Suns)- 43 minutes, 19 points, 9/22 FG, 1/6 3PT, a team-high 3 offensive rebounds, a team-high 10 total rebounds (tied with Frank Kaminsky and Jalen Smith), a team-high 9 assists, a game-high 3 steals, 2 turnovers, and +5 in a 123-121 win over the Spurs.

The rest of the performances of the day:

  • Frank Kaminsky (Benet/Suns)- 20 minutes, 11 points, 5/9 FG, 1/1 3PT, 1 offensive rebounds, a team-high 10 total rebounds (tied with Jevon Carter and Jalen Smith), 7 assists, a block, a turnover, and -10 in a 123-121 win over the Spurs. Kaminsky was just three assists shy of a triple-double.

  • Keita Bates-Diop (University/Spurs)- 12 minutes, 9 points, 4/6 FG, 1/1 3PT, 2 offensive rebounds, 5 rebounds, and +2 in a 123-121 loss to the Suns.
  • Derrick Rose (Simeon/Knicks)- 23 minutes, 7 points, 3/9 FG, 1/1 FT, a team-high 2 offensive rebounds, 5 total rebounds, 2 assists, a turnover, and +0 in a 96-92 win over the Celtics.

  • Jabari Parker (Simeon/Celtics)- 27 minutes, a team-high 18 points, 6/10 FG, 1/3 3PT, 5/6 FT, an offensive rebound, a team-high 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and +8 in a 96-92 loss to the Knicks.
  • Brodric Thomas (Bolingbrook/Cavaliers)- 31 minutes, a career-high 14 points, 4/8 FG, 1/5 3PT, 5/9 FT, an offensive rebound, 4 total rebounds, a team-high 3 steals, and +6 in a 123-109 loss to the Nets.

  • Chasson Randle (Rock Island/Magic)- 25 minutes, 11 points, 4/7 FG, 1/3 3PT, 2/2 FT, 2 rebounds, 3 assists a team-high 1 steal (ties with three others), 2 turnovers, and +5 in a 128-117 loss to the 76ers.

  • Max Strus (Stagg/Heat)- 36 minutes, 20 points, 7/16 FG, 3/11 3PT, 3/4 FT, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and +4 in a 120-107 win over the Pistons. Strus’ 36 minutes played were his most ever.

  • Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young/Pistons)- 24 minutes, 7 points, 3/5 FG, 1/1 FT, an offensive rebound, 5 total rebounds, a team-high 1 block (tied with 3 others), and -8 in a 120-107 loss to the Heat.

  • Jalen Brunson (Stevenson/Mavericks)- 27 minutes, 15 points, 6/12 FG, 2/4 3PT, 1/1 FT, 3 assists, a steal, 2 turnovers, and +0 in a 136-121 loss to the Timberwolves.

  • Anthony Davis (Perspectives/Lakers)- 30 minutes, 14 points, 5/12 FG, 0/3 3PT, 4/6 FT, 5 rebounds, an assist, a steal, a turnover, and +12 in a 110-98 win over the Pelicans.

  • Alfonzo McKinnie (Marshall/Lakers)- 1 minute, 2 points, 1/1 FG, and +1 in a 110-98 win over the Pelicans.
  • Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon/Lakers)- 14 minutes, 6 points, 2/6 FG, 1/2 3PT, 1/2 FT, a rebound, an assist, 2 steals, a turnover, and +0 in a 110-98 win over the Pelicans.
  • Isaiah Roby (Dixon/Thunder)- 12 minutes, 10 points, 5/8 FG, 0/1 3PT, 5 rebounds, and +8 in a 117-112 win over the Clippers.

  • Patrick Beverly (Marshall/Clipper)- 19 minutes, 11 points, 5/8 FG, 0/2 3PT, 1/2 FT, a team-high 4 assists (tied with Patrick Patterson), a block, and -1 in a 117-112 loss to the Thunder.

  • Robert Covington (Proviso West/Trail Blazers)- 29 minutes, 3 points, 1/5 FG, 0/4 3PT, 1/1 FT, 2 offensive rebounds, 7 total rebounds, a steal, a team-high 2 blocks (tied with Jusuf Nurkic), and +23 in a 132-116 win over the Nuggets.
  • JaVale McGee (Franciscan/Nuggets)- 15 minutes, 9 points, 4/9 FG, 0/1 3PT, 1/2 FT, a team-high 4 offensive rebounds, a team-high 8 rebounds, 2 assists, a team-high 2 blocks, and +6 in a 132-116 loss to the Trail Blazers.
