Wednesday evening, three former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in a NBA game. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from June 30.
The Phoenix Suns are Western Conference Finals champs and are headed to the NBA Finals for the first time in 28 years. With that, Proviso East’s Jevon Carter, Benet’s Frank Kaminsky, and Niles North’s Abdel Nader are all headed to the NBA Finals. This will be the 20th consecutive NBA Finals that one of the teams includes someone who played high school basketball in Illinois.
Wednesday, June 30
- Patrick Beverly (Marshall/Clippers)- 32 minutes, 11 points, 4/7 FG, 1/2 3PT, 2/2 FT, a rebound, 3 assists, a steal, a block, a turnover, and -16 in a 130-103 loss to the Suns. Pat Bev went at Devin Booker and Chris Paul all night and eventually got overheated. Late in the game during a pause in the game, Beverly shoved Suns’ Paul and was immediately ejected.
- Abdel Nader (Niles North/Suns)- 6 minutes, a rebound, and -1 in a 130-103 win over the Clippers.
- Jevon Carter (Proviso East/Suns)- 2 minutes, 2 points, 1/1 FG, and +3 in a 130-103 win over the Clippers.
