Former Illinois Prep Athletes and their Performances at the Tokyo Olympics- July 27 and 28

Tuesday and Wednesday, three former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in a NBA game. Below I look into and share each of their performances at the Tokyo Olympics from July 27 and 28.

Tuesday, July 27

  • Jewell Loyd (Niles West/Team USA)- 18:56 minutes, 8 points, 3/9 FG, 2/5 3PT, 1/2 FT, an offensive rebound, 5 total rebounds, an assist, a steal, a block, 2 turnovers, and -14 in an 81-72 win over Nigeria.

Wednesday, July 28

  • Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young/Team Nigeria)- 13:32 minutes, 9 points, 3/4 FG. 3/3 FT, an offensive rebound, 2 total rebounds, an assist, a team-high 4 turnovers, and -6 in a 99-92 loss to Germany.
  • JaVale McGee (Franciscan/Team USA)- 11:53 minutes, 9 points, 4/6 FG, 0/1 3PT, 1/1 FT, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, a block, and +8 in a 120-66 win over Iran.
