Marshall grad Keifer Sykes came into the evening with a chance at $1 million if #3 Boeheims Army can pull off a win against #6 Team 23 in the final game of The Basketball Tournament. It would be Sykes’ who secures more than just the win after his game winner.
Late in the fourth quarter, Team 23 was leading 67-66 and needing just a basket to be the first to 69 to secure a win. They had a couple chances and fell short. Boeheims Army’s Keifer Sykes walked the ball up drove to the three point line and pulled up on his defender. SWISH. AND GAME. Boeheims Army wins the 2021 The Basketball Tournament with a 69-67 score thanks to a Sykes’ three-point shot.
Sykes finished the night with a game-high 21 points (all of the bench), 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal in 29 minutes. He shot 7 for 11 on field-goals, 3 for 6 from behind the arc, and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line.
Sykes not only hit the game-winner in the game to win the game and some money but he also secured his first NBA contract with the Indiana Pacers.
Sykes previously spent time in the NBA with a couple teams’ G-League affiliates and Summer League rosters. Those include the San Antonio Spurs’ Austin Spurs and the Summer League rosters of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets.
Keifer Sykes last played for South East Melbourne Phoenix during the 2020-21 season. He averaged 14 points on 41 percent shooting with 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 26.8 per game.
