Former Illinois Prep Athletes and their NBA Performances- December 25- Christmas Day

Saturday evening, seven former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in various NBA games. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from December 25.

Best of the Day: Jalen Brunson

  • Jalen Brunson (Stevenson/Dallas Mavericks)- 36 minutes, a team-high 27 points (tied with Kristap Porzingis), 10/25 FG, 2/5 3PT, 5/8 FT, a team-high 2 offensive rebounds (tied with 2 others), a team-high 6 assists (tied with Utah Jazz’s Joe Ingles), a team-high 2 steals (tied with 2 others), a turnover, and +4 in a 120-116 loss to the Utah Jazz.

The rest of the performances of the day:

  • Sterling Brown (Proviso East/Dallas Mavericks)- 28 minutes, 9 points, 3/5 FG, 3/3 3PT, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, a turnover, and +7 in a 120-116 loss to the Utah Jazz.
  • Matt Mooney (Notre Dame College Prep/New York Knicks)- 2 minutes, 0/1 FG, 0/1 3PT, a steal, a turnover, and -5 in a 101-87 win over the Atlanta Hawks. First game for the New York Knicks.
  • Malcolm Hill (Belleville East/Atlanta Hawks)- 2 minutes and +5 in a 101-87 loss to the New York Knicks. Hill was brought on with a 10-day contract the other day. This was Hill’s first career NBA game.
  • Jabari Parker (Simeon/Boston Celtics)- 12 minutes, 9 points, 3/7 FG, 2/4 3PT, 1/1 FT, an offensive rebounds, 3 total rebounds, a steal, a turnover, and +1 in a 117-113 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. First game for Parker since December 10 and just his third this month.
  • JaVale McGee (Hales Franciscan/Phoenix Suns)- 13 minutes, 8 points, 3/3 FG, 2/2 FT, an offensive rebound, a team-high 7 rebounds (tied with Mikal Bridges), a team-high 1 block (tied with DeAndre Ayton), 2 turnovers, and a team-high +7 in a 116-107 loss to the Golden State Warriors
  • Jevon Carter (Proviso East/Brooklyn Nets)- 14 minutes, 2 points 1/6 FG, 0/4 3PT, an offensive rebound, 3 total rebounds, an assist, a team-high 1 steal (tied with several), a turnover, and a team-worst -20 in a 122-115 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Carter missed the last three games due to the COVID protocols.
  • Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon/Los Angeles Lakers)- 30 minutes, 14 points, 5/11 FG, 0/1 3PT, 4/4 FT, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, 2 turnovers, and -15 in a 122-115 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
