Monday evening, three former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in various NBA games. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from January 10.

Best of the Day: Robert Covington

Robert Covington (Proviso West) tied his season-high with five made threes in the Portland Trail Blazers win on Monday.

  • Robert Covington (Proviso West/Portland Trail Blazers)- 34 minutes, 21 points, 6/9 FG, 5/7 3PT, 4/4 FT, 4 rebounds, an assist, a game-high 3 steals, a game-high 3 blocks (tied with 2 others), a turnover and +11 in a 114-108 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Rest of the Day’s Performances

  • Keifer Sykes (Marshall/Indiana Pacers)- 23 minutes, 11 points, 5/13 FG, 1/8 3PT, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, 2 turnovers, and -7 in a 101-98 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics.
    • This was Syke’s fifth career NBA start.
  • Keita Bates-Diop (University/San Antonio Spurs)- 25 minutes, 4 points, 2/6 FG, 0/2 3PT, 2 rebounds, 7 total rebounds, an assist, and -11 in a 111-97 loss to the New York Knicks.
