Former Illinois Prep Athletes and their NBA Performances- January 15- Ayo Dosunmu Enters The History Books

Saturday evening, nine former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in various NBA games. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from January 15.

Best of the Day: Ayo Dosunmu

Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park) played his best game as a member of the Chicago Bulls. Unfortunately, the Bulls suffered the loss after losing their late-game lead. But Dosunmu’s performance was encouraging to see and something worth

  • Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park/Chicago Bulls)- 40 minutes, 20 points, 9/10 FG, 3/3 3PT, an offensive rebound, 4 total rebounds, a game-high 10 assists, a turnover, and -6 in a 114-112 loss to the Boston Celtics.

Rest of the Day’s Performances

  • Alfonzo McKinnie (Marshall/Chicago Bulls)- 27 minutes, 4 points, 2/6 FG, 0/1 3PT, 0/2 FT, an offensive rebound, 3 total rebounds, an assist, and -8 in a 114-112 loss to the Boston Celtics.
  • Malcolm Hill (Belleville East/Chicago Bulls)- 18 minutes, 5 points, 1/5 FG, 1/3 3PT, 2/3 FT, a rebound, a rebound, an assist, and -3 in a 114-112 loss to the Boston Celtics.
    • Hill was recently signed by the Chicago Bulls on a 10-day contract after recent injury news in connection to Derrick Jones Jr.
    • Hill stepped in and played strong minutes in the Bulls’ loss. Even more impressive after not playing for a couple weeks and it being just his fourth career game in the NBA.
  • Fred VanVleet (Auburn/Toronto Raptors)- 42 minutes, 17 points, 6/17 FG, 3/8 3PT, 2/4 FT, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, a game-high 3 steals (tied with Kris Middleton), 2 turnovers, and +10 in a 103-96 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
    • VanVleet has yet to score in single digits this season- the longest of his career.
  • Robert Covington (Proviso West/Portland Trail Blazers)- 40 minutes, 15 points, 2 offensive rebounds, 9 total rebounds, 2 assists, a game-high 4 steals, a block, and +10 in a 115-110 win over the Washington Wizards.
  • Jevon Carter (Proviso East/Brooklyn Nets)- 2 minutes, 2 points, 1/2 FG, 0/1 3PT, and -5 in a 120-105 win over the Pelicans.
  • Max Strus (Stagg/Miami Heat)- 28 minutes, 11 points, 3/12 FG, 2/9 3PT, 3/3 FT, 4 rebounds, an assist, a block, a team-high 2 turnovers (tied with a few others) and -8 in a 109-98 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
    • Miami Heat are now 7-1 when Strus starts after this loss to the the Sixers.
  • Keita Bates-Diop (University/San Antonio Spurs)- 22 minutes, 13 points, 4/8 FG, 1/3 3PT, 4/4 FT, an offensive rebound, 7 total rebounds, an assist, and a game-high +15 in a 101-94 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
  • Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon/Los Angeles Lakers)- 21 minutes, 3 points, 1/5 FG, 0/2 3PT, 1/2 FT, 4 rebounds, an assist, a team-high 1 steal (tied with 3 others), and -15 in a 133-96 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
