Former Illinios Prep Athletes and their NBA Performances- January 21- VanVleet, Strus, Dosunmu, and More

Friday evening, nine former Illinois prep athletes saw minutes in various NBA games. Below I look into and share each of their NBA performances from January 21.

Best of the Day- Fred VanVleet

  • Fred VanVleet (Auburn/Toronto Raptors)- 39 minutes, 21 points, 6/17 FG, 4/11 3PT, 5/5 FT, an offensive rebound, a game-high 12 assists, 2 steals, a game-high 2 blocks (tied with Montrezl Harrell), a turnover, and +8 in a 109-105 win over the Washington Wizards.

Rest of the Day’s Performances

  • Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon/Los Angeles Lakers)- 20 minutes, 2 points, 1/4 FG, 0/2 3PT, 1 1 rebound, 2 assists, a steal, a team-high 1 block (tied with a few others), and a team-worst -7 in a 116-105 win over the Orlando Magic.
  • Admiral Schofield (Zion-Benton Township)- 1 minute and +2 in a 116-105 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
  • Max Strus (Stagg/Miami Heat)- 33 minutes, 15 points, 6/16 FG, 3/10 3PT, 2 offensive rebounds, 4 assists, a turnover, and +1 in a 110-108 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
  • Robert Covington (Proviso West/Portland Trail Blazers)- 39 minutes, 5 points, 1/3 FG, 1/2 3PT, 2/4 FT, 4 rebounds, a block, and +10 in a 109-105 win over the Boston Celtics.
  • Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park/Chicago Bulls)- 39 minutes, 5 points, 2/9 FG, 1/5 3PT, 5 rebounds, a game-high 6 assists (tied with Bucks’ Kris Middleton), a steal (tied with many others), a team-high 2 turnovers (tied with Nikola Vucevic) and +3 in a 94-90 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
  • Malcolm Hill (Belleville East/Chicago Bulls)- 2 minutes, 0/1 FG, 0/1 3PT, and a zero plus-minus in a 94-90 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
  • Keita Bates-Diop (University/San Antonio Spurs)- 19 minutes, 4 points, 2/6 FG, 0/1 3PT, 2 offensive rebounds, 5 total rebounds, a block, and -4 in a 117-102 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
  • John Konchar (West Chicago/Memphis Grizzlies)- 33 minutes, 8 points, 2/6 FG, 1/3 3PT, 3/4 FT, 5 rebounds, an assist, 2 blocks, a turnover, and -1 in a 122-118 win over the Denver Nuggets.
